Turf Burn Coed Reverse 4's - Saturday Rules
Coed Reverse 4’s Tournament RULES AND GUIDELINES
1. Teams will only call fouls committed by their own players. Players will not call the fouls against their opponents. If there is a dispute on a call, re-serve the play. Team captains are expected to calmly discuss and resolve any disputed points. If necessary, contact an league coordinator for clarification of rules after match is completed.
2. There are NO court position restrictions or requirements in 4’s volleyball, but service rotation must remain the same throughout a single game. e.g.: players can stay in the same court position an entire game (at the net/back row etc.), but each player MUST serve in the same service rotation for the entire game.
3. All players will conduct themselves in a polite and sportsmanlike manner. Individuals who do not abide by these criteria will face disciplinary action and risk being removed from the league.
4. All balls must be hit cleanly. No scooping or carrying the ball. Only off of a driven ball may a ball be legally double -hit (i.e. off arm and head in one continuous motion).
5. Contact with the net (except for hair) in any way constitutes loss of point. A player that goes under the net but does not contact the net or interfere with the play is okay. *Note- if the wind pushes the net into a player, then this will not be considered a foul and play should proceed.
6. A served ball may not be blocked, spiked or volleyed directly back over the net. However, a served ball may be received by volleying the ball provided it is passed to a teammate.
7. The ball can hit any part of the body.
8. Men can only spike from behind the 3m attack line. Men can only block other men- men can jump from in front of the attack line in order to block an opposing male player’s attack. These restrictions do not apply to women (women can block anyone).
9. A block will not count as part of a team’s three hits.
10. Male players cannot attack the ball above the net in front of the attack line. If a male bumps or sets the ball from in front of the attack line over the net, it must land past the opponents’ attack line to be valid.
11. Male players can jump from in front of the attack line if they are setting or passing the ball to a teammate.
12. No Open Handed Tipping: Players who contact the ball with one hand and are putting the ball over the net must cleanly hit with the heel or palm of hand (a roll shot), with straight, locked fingers and a locked wrist (a cobra), knurled fingers (a camel toe), or with the back of the hand (locked wrist and locked fingers/knuckles. One handed placement or redirection of the ball with the fingers (dink or open-handed tip) is a fault.
13. If a player is going to 'set' into the opponent's court, the player must contact the ball with 2 hands above the shoulders and it must be set directly forward or backward in relation to the
player's body (i.e. their hips and shoulders should be lined up in the direction they are setting). NO DUMPING! This applies even if it is the team’s 3rd hit.
14. Coed 4’s - Lineups are comprised of 4 players including at least 2 women and 1 man on the court. Teams may field less than the full lineup provided they have at least 1 man and 1 woman.
15. Seeding matches will consist of 20-minute timed games with no cap on points (play until the whistle). If the game is tied when the whistle blows, teams will play one more point to determine a winner (NO TIES). Games are all rally point. If teams want, they may switch sides every 7 points.
Playoffs
16. Playoff matches will have a best 2-of-3 (21/21/15) format. Games are all rally point, win by 2 points, with a hard cap at 23 (Hard cap at 17 in the 3rd match). Playoff matches may be timed if necessary.
17. Playoff matches will be over when a team wins 2 sets or time expires. Urban Rec will be responsible for keeping time.
18. If time expires during the 3rd set, whichever team is winning at that point will win the match.
19. If time expires during the 2nd set, then total points scored in the 2 games to that point will determine the winner of the match. If the whistle blows while play is on, please play out the point. If this results in the score being tied for the set or for the match, then teams will play one more point to determine a clear winner.
20. Please enjoy yourselves!!
